Lower Dens

Lower Dens return to Dublin in October promoting their new album with the groovy cover. A little bit of work was required to make this look good as a poster and here it is.

Still Metal

A few weeks ago I put out a collection of my latest music. The last song written for this is called Still Metal, I decided to name the album that too.  I pondered for ages over what name to put this out under, my last album went by the name Like There's No Tomorrow. Once I simplified it and went with my own name I knew I wanted to do a Morrissey and put myself on the cover but I have no interest in taking a special photo for that purpose. I decided I wanted something that already existed. So I went through a photo album and took a load of photos on my phone of photographs of myself that I didn't hate. This polaroid was taken in London in May 1994.

Large Mound

Large Mound poster from 2008. A little more restrained that the one below. This is based on the cover of the album Raised On Rock which is a piece by an artist named Dave Ford, a truck drawing. I read that Dave is doing more Truck Drawings, check this facebook page. This drawing was from 2000 or 2001 so it's nice to read that it is still getting attention. Dave's latest work uses swings and lots of drums, looks cool. Here's his blog.
Anyway, Large Mound decided to play Raised On Rock from start to finish just like some famous band would play an important album. The mere though was hilarious to us. We asked Queen Kong to play, they'd just given us our first gig in Cork.

Stephen Malkmus

Poster for Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. Another basic album cover job. I just shifted things around a good bit to make it work as a portrait poster. Here's the album cover for comparison.

Porcupine Tree

NewProg band Porcupine Tree are on tour and visit Dublin this month. Here are two posters I have prepared for the gig. One is a poster I did after some PT research and another is one that I did after getting the agent guidelines. Oh well.

The Avett Brothers

The Avett Brothers played a sold out gig in CrawDaddy earlier this year. I did two posters for this, the one on the left is the original and is a straight album cover job. Then I was asked to do another with the lads on it, which is here too. Interesting.

Basia Bulat (again)

Basia Bulat, from Canada, makes her second visit to Dublin this week. Here's the poster, based on the lovely grainy photo on her latest album.

Antibalas 2

They ditched the afrobeat orchestra by this stage, back in Dublin in 2007. This is just an edited version of their Security album cover with a bloody awful info section at the bottom, yuk, what was I thinking?

Mixmaster Mike

Hey, another gig that hasn't happened yet. This is for one next week when Mixmaster Mike comes to town. This is another one that started of as a very last minute design for a larger print ad then just carried on being the design for the gig. Not the best way to work it but I don't like it when the one gig has a couple of different designs and once something is used I tend to try and stick with it. I like consistency.

Deus

Deus poster from 2008. This is just the album cover they were touring at the time. Thing is 'deus' is done in this really thin scratch on the cover. Not ideal for a poster that sometimes needs to be seen from a distance. So I took it into illustrator and bulked it out. I hope it retained some of the spirit of the original, erm, not so sure about that. So anyway, I decided to hand draw the other text too.
