Large Mound

Large Mound poster from 2008. A little more restrained that the one below. This is based on the cover of the album Raised On Rock which is a piece by an artist named Dave Ford, a truck drawing. I read that Dave is doing more Truck Drawings, check this facebook page. This drawing was from 2000 or 2001 so it's nice to read that it is still getting attention. Dave's latest work uses swings and lots of drums, looks cool. Here's his blog.
Anyway, Large Mound decided to play Raised On Rock from start to finish just like some famous band would play an important album. The mere though was hilarious to us. We asked Queen Kong to play, they'd just given us our first gig in Cork.

Large Mound with The Spook again...

Hahahaha. Oh did I laugh when I found this old poster from 2006 for my band Large Mound? It's like a demo of a good poster. General layout and idea is fine but the finish is awful.  I seem to remember wanting to do something about "'til death do us part" but come on, the heart isn't even lined up properly. Must've been a busy day. I do remember it as a great gig though.

Large Mound

New Large Mound poster. This Jason Frederick illustration is used on the inside of the new Large Mound album, Another Year Of Rock. For this poster I just rotated it and treated it in the same way as I treated another one of Jason's drawings for the cover of Another Year Of Rock. I quickly hand drew and scanned the band names and 'shopped the ol' paper trick. For a super quick poster that was really only meant for a facebook event page I like it.

Things ad

Here's an ad that was put together back in 2001. Highlighting a load of the independent music that was released that year. Good stuff.

Large Mound

An old Large Mound poster today. I don't even know what year this was, 2005 maybe? This is a drawing of me being silenced by someone. The Music Room was a great but short lived venue on Abbey Street, above the Firestone Pub. It was run by Smiley Bolger who had the walls covered with a million brilliant Thin Lizzy related posters and newspaper articles. Anyway I remember the gig was a bit of a disaster, we (large mound) had to pull out on the day and Steerage were replaced by Omelette. I don't think they have played a gig since. Steerage are now Mumblin' Deaf Ro's backing band and Yakuza are still sticking it out in Belfast, new album on the way I believe.

The Blood Arm

New York band The Blood Arm came to Europe in 2006 and played Dublin. Also playing was British band Pull Tiger Tail and Large Mound. The poster is a modified version of their "Lie Lover Lie" album.

Soundcloud Test

Rubbish Coffee by largemound

I just set up a Soundcloud account for the Large Mound. I'm just testing out the whole thing so when this has finished processing you should be able to listen to the song Rubbish Coffee right here.

Large Mound / Flying Eyes

Large Mound and Flying Eyes Irish tour poster from 2007. LM is of course the band I play in and FE are a band from Toronto with my brother on drums. Posting this because I got the news that Flying Eyes are getting back together!
The poster was a bit of a laugh to do. It was a deliberate attempt to do something in the style of Maggie Taylor, pretty poor attempt but still fun.

Napalm Death

Another BIG LOGO poster. This time for Napalm Death playing Dublin in 2002. Notice Large Mound opened this gig. I think some people enjoyed us.

Ted Leo twofer

Two posters for Ted Leo & The Pharmacists. The one on the left is from 2007 where Ted's European tour was cut short after the Irish gigs. (Crayonsmith replaced Young Soul Rebels in the end). The poster on the right was for the Dublin gig as part of the rescheduled Euro tour in 2008. My band Large Mound were lucky enough to open the 2007 gig and Ted asked for us to open again in 2008. We actually blagged a few more gigs with The Pharmacists on that tour and played with them in Belfast, Leeds, Nottingham, Bristol and London too. Great days. (more trivia: the line-up pictured in the '08 poster was not the one that played the tour.)
This post is for all the FOT who have been visiting the site recently, thanks.

Large Mound

Another one from a few years ago, I think it was 2006. Large Mound went to Canada for a few gigs. The map of Ireland is very funny to me, maybe it looks stupid but I was cracking up when doing it. Another classic drawing by Ian lawton. Last time it was checked there is still an A0 version of this on the wall in Sneaky Dee's.
Oh, Large Mound is my band, or the band I'm in. Did that even need saying?
