Guru RIP

A while ago I posted a Gangstarr poster and mentioned that Guru had just had a heart attack. Well, he lost his cancer battle last night and died. I wish I had a better poster to use today because this design is crap, but still... this marks his visit to CrawDaddy in November of 2004. I have another one from '02 or '01 in the locker somewhere too.

Dilated Peoples

Dilated Peoples poster from way back, 2004 I think. A bit heavy on the ol' photoshop here. Still, they liked it and took some posters away with them. Nice.

Antibalas

An oldie, from 2004, Ninja Tune group Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra or just Antibalas as they're known now. I have another one from these guys too, might post that later.

Tony Allen

One from the early days of the CrawDaddy venue, probably 2004. Tony Allen played two nights. All I remember about this one is that the quality of the image was very bad. I did a little bit of work on it so it was almost good enough then the deadline came and I decided to just go with it because it is such a cool photo. I really like the format I did all the CrawDaddy stuff in back in those days, I might start doing some of those again.

Damien Dempsey (The Homecoming Shows)

In 2004 Irish, I suppose, singer songwriter Damien Dempsey did a few gigs in a hotel in North Dublin. He would have been a regular in Whelan's and I think he might have been playing in Vicar Street around then too so quite unusual for someone in his position at the time to do this.

Neville Staple

And old one, from 2004, Neville Staple of the Specials did two nights in the newly opened CrawDaddy.

Jungle Brothers

Here's an old, from 2004. It's for The Jungle Brothers doing a live show in CrawDaddy shortly after it opened. Nice simple job, looks decent.

Masters Of Groove

Masters Of Groove from 2004. I'm just drawn to post these posters using Dinn. Can't get enough of it. I also love that shade of blue, so this is a winner. Let down by the colour photo just stuck in there. What was I thinking?

The Fall (Part 3)

Third The Fall post. This one is from 2004. Their most recent release at the time was the fantastically named "50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong" best of compilation. Let's see, how many more Fall posts will there be? I think two more. I wish I'd gone to more of these gigs. I've only seen The Fall live once.

Horace Andy x 3

Big post. Here are three posters, all for legend Horace Andy. The top left poster was one of the first shows in CrawDaddy, maybe 2004. The one with Johnny Clarke is from 2008, the middle one was, erm, somewhere in the middle. Two of them I like, one of them is a bit of a disaster ;-)

G-Unit's Lloyd Banks

Talking of getting away with it. Check this out. Poster for G-Unit's Lloyd Banks from 2003 or 2004. Brief, take the Beg For Mercy album cover and put Lloyd's head on 50 Cent and Tony Yayo's bodies. Pretty funny. Anyway the gig went ahead and nobody got shot.

Atmosphere (part 1)

American hiphop dude Atmosphere always has cool artwork. Which makes life easy for people in my position working up local tour posters. Here's one from 2004 (I think). This was shortly after CrawDaddy opened. I love the logo he was using back then. Another cool Atmosphere poster in the next post, tomorrow or actually maybe Tuesday (it's a Bank Holiday in Ireland).

Lucky Dube (1964 - 2007)

Poster from 2004 for Lucky Dube. At least I think it was 2004. It was soon after CrawDaddy opened anyway. Another artist who passed. He was here again in April 2007 then murdered in October 2007. Tragic.
