Large Mound with The Spook again...

Hahahaha. Oh did I laugh when I found this old poster from 2006 for my band Large Mound? It's like a demo of a good poster. General layout and idea is fine but the finish is awful.  I seem to remember wanting to do something about "'til death do us part" but come on, the heart isn't even lined up properly. Must've been a busy day. I do remember it as a great gig though.

Tiesto

Another one from 2006. It's Tiesto and he's the best DJ in the world. Or so he says. To be honest I didn't really do much to this. With someone like Tiesto you follow the rules or someone gets in shit.

M Ward

M Ward from 2006. Again, I think this is unfinished because it comes from a folder deep in my computer called "Temporary Proofs" full of work in progress and ditched ideas. My records tell me that Pinky and The Basement supported at this gig. Pinky now being known as Ivan St John.

Antics

Antics is the Wednesday night indie club in CrawDaddy in Dublin. Tonight is the club's last night after a successful 5 years. I have done 5 or 6 posters for them over the years, here's the first. The Mighty Stef from 2006.

Steve Reid (RIP)

I read this morning that the drummer Steve Reid has died. I posted a nice Steve Reid poster a few weeks ago but I know I have at least two more in the archives. I spent a little while this morning trying to find them to no avail. Best I could find it this section of a larger poster from 2006 I think. This show was in the Spiegeltent as part of the Fringe Festival.

The Blood Arm

New York band The Blood Arm came to Europe in 2006 and played Dublin. Also playing was British band Pull Tiger Tail and Large Mound. The poster is a modified version of their "Lie Lover Lie" album.

Grant Willard Conspiracy

For a little while I was doing billboard posters in full colour, this is one of them. Grant Willard Conspiracy from April 2006 supported here by Patrick Freyne, he ex of National Prayer Breakfast and El Diablo and now writing for one of Ireland's national newspapers, I can't remember which one. Anyway, they were a good band, Patrick is a good songwriter.

Supersystem

Hipper than hip New York band Supersystem played CrawDaddy in 2006. They're the sort of band I'd like to like but just can't. Just checked their site for this and am not surprised to find that they've split up, I mean "Refusing to be satisfied by the familiar, Supersystem has always been ready to destroy a song in order to put it back together again. Hip-hop, electronica, punk rock, so-called world music a little bit of everything has gone into the architecture". The architecture. Jaysus.

Anyway, around this time I was enjoying doing loads of posters in this style. The actual gig info is OTT on this but you've gotta do what you've gotta do. (notice the arm fail)

Messiah J & The Expert

A flyer from 2006 for Messiah J & The Expert. They're a hiphop duo from Dublin. Despite the fact that they've played quite a lot in Dublin and that I've even done work for a good number of they're gigs and that I've bought all their albums and liked them a lot, I have not seen them live since 2002 (before they released anything)... until last Friday night in Dublin's Twisted Pepper. What a brilliant gig! Excellent.

Mr. Thing

This is from 2006. DJ Mr. Thing doing a gig in Rí-Rá in Dublin. I heard that at this gig Mr. Thing commented on how much he liked the poster. Sure it's simple and it looks good but I can hardly take the credit for that seeing as how I got the cool photo from his own website. I used my number one favourite font in this one, Dinn. I try not to use it very often.

Brian Jonestown Massacre

2006 Brian Jonestown Massacre playing Vicar Street, Dublin. Here's the poster used for it. This was around the time the film DIG was released which is why the poster is based on the film artwork. I had another version based on their circular logo before I got the Dig brief. On a related note, last year I did a poster for The Dandy Warhols. I doubt I'll be posting that here, it wasn't such a great poster (not that this is a work of art).

Duke Special

Duke Special poster from back in the day. This was 2006. Here he is playing The Sugar Club in Dublin. He got more popular after this playing much bigger venues. Not sure what he's doing now, probably working on a new album.

DJ Woody

From 2006. Nice poster for DJ Woody. Got to admit I didn't and still don't know who DJ Woody is. But hey, he's a two time ITF winner!
